Battery issue on my Razer Blade laptop

| Answer ID: 3209
This answer shows you the details about a potential battery issue on a Razer Blade where it looks swollen.

Why does my Razer Blade battery look swollen?

All Lithium-Ion batteries generate gases via a process called electrolyte decomposition and this can cause the battery to swell. Your battery has built-in safeguards to help prevent damage should this process occur.

What are the indications of a swollen battery?

Below are the following signs that the battery on your Razer Blade is swollen:

  • The touchpad or keyboard is lifted.

  • The laptop rocks when placed on a flat surface, not due to broken or missing feet.

  • Seams (where the case parts meet) are uneven or splitting.

Be aware that a swollen battery can cause physical damage to the laptop's enclosure. Any damaged components should be repaired or replaced along with the swollen battery before you continue using your Razer Blade.

How do I handle a swollen Lithium battery?

A swollen battery must be handled carefully to avoid thermal runaway resulting in energetic failures. Once the battery swells, it should no longer be used or charged and should be disposed of according to your local regulations. Follow the guidelines below to handle a laptop with a swollen battery.

  • Discontinue the use of the laptop immediately.

  • Disconnect power by unplugging the AC jack from the laptop.

  • Place the laptop away from a high-temperature environment and isolate it to prevent property damage. Use a Lipo battery bag, if available, to contain the laptop.

  • Do not puncture the battery or battery cell.

  • Do not attempt to remove the laptop's back cover or the battery.

  • Do not discard the battery in the trash.

Important: Razer Blade batteries should be replaced by an authorized Razer Repair Center.

Generate a battery report and look up the battery's serial number to identify its batch.

Note: Ensure the battery is properly installed on the Razer Blade before collecting a battery report.
