STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS
Before you start
-
Ensure Windows is up to date. See How to get the latest software and driver updates from Windows.
If you just updated Windows, install the "Optional updates" under Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options.
- Plug the Razer Blade into a wall outlet. Do not let it run on battery alone before proceeding.
- Save all files and close all programs.
Update Process
- Open Settings and go to Account Settings.
- Click “Accounts” in the left sidebar, then choose Sign-in options.
- Remove Windows Hello. This can be Facial Recognition (Windows Hello Face) and PIN (Windows Hello PIN).
-
Enter your current password to confirm.
Note: If you are trying to remove your PIN, you must have another sign-in method (like a password) already set up. It is recommended to add a local account or another windows account. Otherwise, Windows will not allow you to remove the PIN.
For a local account, you can go to “Settings” > “Accounts” and select “Sign in with a local account”.
-
Restart your computer.
Note: If Windows Hello is still enabled, a warning message will pop up.
- Once BitLocker is turned off and Windows Hello is disabled, you can now run the updater.
- Download the latest BIOS Updater.
-
Click “Yes” if the User Account Control window pops up to proceed.
Important: If the Razer Blade Updater window appears with details regarding your current update version and the version that your Razer Blade laptop will be updated to, DO NOT run Windows Update.
-
Click "UPDATE" to initiate the update process.
Note: Control of your mouse and keyboard during the updating process will be lost temporarily. You will not be able to proceed if you already have the latest software installed.
A progress bar will appear indicating the status of the installation process. During installation, you will not be able to access other applications.
The Razer Blade will restart a few times and will automatically boot to Windows once the update is complete.
Important: Do not force restart or shut down the Razer Blade during this process.
- Turn off BitLocker.
- Open the Control Panel and go to the BitLocker Settings.
- Go to “System and Security” > “BitLocker Drive Encryption”.
- Locate the drive that says "BitLocker On" and turn off BitLocker.
-
Click "Decrypt drive". Windows will then begin decrypting the drive.
Note: This process can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours depending on the size and content. Do not shut down or disconnect power while the decryption process is in progress. Wait until decryption is complete.
- Restart your computer.
- Open Settings and go to Account Settings.
- Click “Accounts” in the left sidebar, then choose Sign-in options.
