What are the features of a USB-C connection?

  • Reversible Connector - The oval shaped USB-C connector head is designed with symmetry along with its pin configuration, enabling it to be completely reversible and can be conveniently plugged in any orientation.

  • Alt-Mode for combining multiple interfaces - The USB-C has an Alt-Mode capability which enables it to support different transmission interfaces such as DisplayPort display interface or the Thunderbolt interface.

  • Two-way power charging – USB-C connectors have the Power Delivery 3.0 technology, which enables it to either input or output power.

  • Digital to Analog Audio conversion – The USB-C enables 3.5 mm headphone users to be able to use their devices on new generation smartphones that are increasingly eliminating headphone jacks using its ability to convert digital audio into analog sound. With the use of a simple adapter, users can still enjoy their 3.5 mm headphones.

What is USB-C DisplayPort (DP Alt Mode)?

The Alt Mode for USB Type-C connector enables HDMI-enabled source devices to use a USB Type-C® connector to connect directly to HDMI-enabled displays, and deliver HDMI signals and features over a simple cable without the need for protocol and connector adapters or dongles.

This supports the following HDMI 1.4b features:

  • Resolutions up to 4K
  • Surround sound
  • Audio Return Channel (ARC)
