Scenario: Using a USB 2.4 GHz wireless device on a system with USB 3.0 devices plugged in causes erratic behavior such as:
- Input lag or delayed response from mouse, keyboard, or headset.
- Missing keyboard characters or mouse commands.
- Shorter effective operating distance between the wireless device and its receiver.
- Audio and mic breaking.
This is due to radio frequency interference. USB 3.0 cables and devices can impact 2.4 GHz wireless devices when noise from the USB 3.0 data spectrum reaches the 2.4-2.5 GHz range. If the antenna of a 2.4 GHz wireless device is placed close to a USB 3.0 cable or device, it can pick up the broadband noise resulting in a throughput drop on the wireless link of the device to its receiver.
Perform the following to resolve this issue:
- Separate your dongles or receivers from USB 3.0 cables or devices.
- Position your USB dongle or receiver as close as possible to your wireless device.
- Use a standard USB extension cable to position your dongle or receiver closer to your wireless device while keeping it away from other USB 3.0 devices.
