Fans that do not spin or stop intermittently, and PCs that still run hot with Razer cooling installed, are usually caused by loose connections, bent pins, accumulated dust, blocked airflow, or incorrect fan and pump settings.
Follow the detailed instructions below to troubleshoot fan and temperature issues on your Razer product.
Select your product
Razer PWM PC Fan Controller
My case fans are not spinning or stop intermittently
- Check that the connections between your case fans and the Razer PWM PC Fan Controller are snug and secure.
- Ensure that there are no bent pins or dust on any of the case fans’ connectors.
- If only one or two fans are not spinning or stopping intermittently, replace the fans or connect them directly to the motherboard.
My case fans are spinning but my PC’s temperature readings are still too high
- Increase the fan speed of your case fans via Razer Synapse.
- Move your computer to a cooler area.
- Stop overclocking.
- Clean the air vents and case fans.
Razer Hanbo All-In-One Liquid Cooler
The Razer Hanbo fans are not spinning or stop intermittently
- Get rid of any dust and grime that has accumulated on the fans and the radiator.
- Ensure the connections between the Razer Hanbo and the motherboard are snug and secure.
- Ensure you have installed it with the Razer PWM PC Fan Controller and that it is connected to the correct header on your motherboard.
- Configure the Razer Hanbo’s fan settings by going to Razer Synapse > Accessories > AIO.
Verify your fan speed settings relative to the temperature in Razer Synapse.

- Replace malfunctioning fans if applicable.
My CPU still overheats with the Razer Hanbo installed
Ensure that your Razer Hanbo All-In-One Liquid Cooler can cool your processor completely through the following:
Clean off any dust or debris lodged in the fans or the radiator preferably using compressed air or if needed, a damp cloth. Allow fans to dry completely.
Remove anything that could be impeding the fans like cables, case framing, or other objects.
Check that the fan screws are not torqued too tightly and instead should be snug, but not over tightened.
Check that the radiator is mounted with the tubes located at the bottom if the radiator is mounted on the front of your case.
Note: Mounting your cooler with the tubes at the top can cause increased noise levels, suboptimal thermal temperatures, and potential pump failure due to an increased risk of bubbles being pulled inside the pump.
Keep the wired connections between the system and the Razer Hanbo All-In-One Liquid Cooler snug and secure.
Check for any leakages.
Check if the Razer Hanbo All-In-One Liquid Cooler’s fan speed and pump speed are being detected by Razer Synapse.
Reapply thermal paste if necessary.
Razer Kunai Chroma Case Fans
My case fans are not spinning
- Ensure that the 4-pin PWM connectors are securely connected and the pins are not bent or broken.
- If you have another fan, connect it to the same port and try again to check if the port is defective.
The CPU fan is running but I still get a CPU fan error
Some motherboards will display a CPU fan error when the fan speed falls below a specified threshold. Adjust the threshold in the BIOS or disable the CPU fan error warning for fans to spin at a lower rpm for lower noise levels.
My case fans are spinning but my PC’s temperature readings are still too high
- Move your computer to a cooler area.
- Stop overclocking.
- Clean the air vents and case fans.
My PWM fan starts to spin when the PC boots but stops
Refer to your motherboard’s manual to see if it has 4-pin headers that control the fan speed.
