How To
How do I overclock or undervolt a Razer Blade via Razer Synapse?
Overclocking is attained by carefully maximizing your CPU's frequency and balancing it with voltage regulation to run your processor above default specifications. When done correctly, this results in increased and better performance from your PC overall.
See the answer below for step-by-step instructions:
Troubleshooting
What should I do if the system slows down entirely or crashes while overclocking?
If the system is still able to load Razer Synapse, go to “SYSTEM” > “PERFORMANCE” and hit “RESET”. If not, perform a factory reset.
What should I do if my system encountered BSOD while overclocking?
The overclocking parameters on Razer Synapse will go back to default values after the system restarts.
General Information
Will overclocking or undervolting void my Blade’s warranty?
By using overclocking or undervolting via Razer Synapse, it will not void the warranty of the system. Please note that the system may not be stable with all the Razer Synapse overclocking or undervolting settings. Razer will only provide support when overclocking or undervolting are disabled in the system. Razer does not warranty against data corruption if data is lost because of an unstable overclocking or undervolting setting.
Is memory or GPU overclocking supported with Razer Synapse?
No. Memory and GPU overclocking are not supported on Razer Blade laptops. There is an associated risk of damage to crucial components if unauthorized changes are made, which will result in voiding the manufacturer’s warranty.
What benchmarking tools track the performance of the CPU during overclocking?
The most common benchmarking tools to use are Intel® XTU and Cinebench. Note that each benchmarking tool is set up to measure different parameters’ performance.
Why do benchmark results differ each time I run the test?
Many reasons and factors affect third-party benchmarking tool measurements, such as CPU performance which includes the current CPU load and running tasks, CPU temperature, the performance of each CPU’s core during the test, and current ambiance condition.
That is why different results are expected even on two or more Razer Blade laptops of the same model with the same set of parameters.
Are there any safeguards?
Yes. Intel CPU utilizes dynamic frequency scaling or thermal throttling safeguard of Intel® XTU. What it does is it reduces performance when the CPU temperature is at the maximum or over the intended threshold until the optimum temperature is attained. For more details, see A Guide to Overclocking with Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU).
Can I download Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU) and run it in parallel?
Yes, but the system must be in overclocking (OC) mode in Razer Synapse for Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU) to work properly. If you use XTU while the system is in a standard Razer Synapse performance mode, it will not be supported.
