How to fix lagging, too fast, or slow mouse cursor speed issue, broken mouse

| Answer ID: 4120
This is a step-by-step guide on how to fix cursor speed issues on your Razer mouse.

Effective February 3, 2026, Razer Synapse 3 will no longer receive updates or support cloud services. After this date, cloud syncing of configurations across PCs using the same Razer ID will be disabled.

Note: Your installed devices will continue to be configurable in Razer Synapse 3. However, if you uninstall these devices completely, you will need to upgrade to Razer Synapse 4 to continue customization.

Download Razer Synapse 4 and migrate your existing Razer Synapse 3 profiles using the Profile Migration Tool to retain access to your configurations. See How to migrate your Razer Synapse 3 Profile to Razer Synapse 4 for instructions.

The following factors can cause mouse cursor issues:

  • Incorrect DPI configurations

  • Improper hub connections

  • Software bugs

  • Hardware-related issues such as stuck debris and dirty sensors or switches.

Below are the steps to fix cursor speed issues on your Razer mouse.

  1. Adjust the DPI of your Razer mouse.

Note: Make sure your DPI configuration is set to your preferred settings. DPI presets vary depending on your Razer mouse.

    • Push the top button to increase the DPI value.

    • Push the bottom button to decrease the DPI value.

Note: For a Razer mouse with a single DPI button, clicking this will cycle through your DPI settings.

Also, if you have Razer Synapse running on your computer, the DPI meter will show up every time you click the buttons.

Alternatively, you can adjust the DPI setting through Razer Synapse. See How to adjust the DPI setting on a Razer mouse through Razer Synapse.

  2. Ensure the device is plugged in directly to a PC and not a USB hub.

Note: For a wireless connection, a clear line of sight from the Razer mouse to the dongle is a must.

  3. Make sure the firmware on your Razer mouse is up to date. See Software and Firmware Updates for Razer Peripherals for any available firmware updates for your device.

Note: If your device is not listed, then it does not have firmware or software available for download.

  4. Properly clean your Razer mouse.

    1. Unplug your Razer mouse from your computer.

    2. Clean the body of your mouse using a lint-free microfiber cloth. Wipe the surface of your mouse gently but thoroughly.
    3. Clean the mouse sensor using a handheld blower or a can of compressed air.
  5. Test the Razer mouse with a different system without Razer Synapse if applicable.

  6. Reset your Razer mouse's Surface Calibration. See How to use the Surface Calibration in Razer Synapse 2.0,  Razer Synapse 3 or Razer Synapse 4.

  7. Check if any software is causing the issue.

    1. Exit all apps by going to System Tray.

    2. Locate Razer Synapse.

    3. Right-click and select “Exit All Apps”.

  8. Ensure Windows is up to date. See How to get the latest software and driver updates from Windows.

If you just updated Windows, please install the "Optional updates" under Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options.

  9. Perform a clean reinstall of Razer Synapse to rule out any installation or update bug causing the issue.

  10. Uninstall the drivers of your Razer mouse if the issue persists.

The cursor speed issues on your Razer mouse should now be fixed.
